Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of concrete does Hardly Soft use?
Hardly Soft utilizes an ultra fine blend of professional grade concrete and fiber reinforcement. Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), and Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) make a dense material but also allow for a thinness that gives the impression of delicacy. Jessica’s skill with these materials ensure that all work from Hardly-Soft is both beautifully finished and extremely durable.
Care and Maintenance?
Concrete is very durable but should be treated like other natural stones. I recommend cleaning with mild soap and water. To prevent staining, avoid leaving high-acid foods on the surface. All Hardly Soft products are sealed with an ICT sealer that is food safe.
Weight and Movement?
Integrity of material is a core mission of Hardly Soft. Its robustness and tactility is what Jessica loves about it. Concrete is naturally heavy but Jessica works to make each design from Hardly Soft as light as possible. Larger pieces are composite-based, which means table tops and legs separate from each other for ease of movement. No individual component is over 100 lbs. All pieces have padded feet so they can slide on floor surfaces and many pieces contain negative space (voids) that reduce the overall weight.
You don’t live in New Orleans?
If you are interested in a piece and live outside of the city, please let Jessica know. Hardly Soft can ship to you! Crating, freight, and insurance are additional costs. Please contact hello@hardly-soft.com to receive a quote.
